Art Rock Show – Empath (Week 26)

De Canadese multi-instrumentalist Devin Townsend verlegt graag de grenzen. Het resultaat is Empath, het eerste volledige solo-album sinds Ziltoid The Omniscient (2007). Jeffrey van Metalfan.nl: “Op dit album gooit HevyDevy alle remmen los. Een beter statement dan de eerste reguliere track Genesis is er wat dat betreft niet. Elektronica, Hollywood-soundtracks, achtbitsbliepjes, blastbeats, disco; alles komt langs. Het is vooral knap dat de multi-instrumentalist voorkomt dat deze track ontspoort. Ondanks de verschillende genres sluiten de secties goed op elkaar aan en het refrein zorgt voor de nodige houvast.

Filmmuziek speelt een grote rol op deze release. Luister maar eens naar het verhalende Why. Cinematischer kan niet. Ook hierin zijn de verschillende stijlen, waaronder klassieke muziek en metal, knap geïntegreerd.
