Art Rock Show – You Know What They Mean (Week 48)

Bent Knee is een band zonder grenzen. Hun muziek is moeilijk in een vakje te stoppen. Excentrieke pop? Artrock? Avant-garde prog? Een iets is zeker: de band en haar muziek is onmiskenbaar onorthodox.

John van Leijen van Prog Wereld: “In de muziek zijn dan ook sterk uiteenlopende invloeden aanwezig zoals industrial, progrock, rock, pop, jazz en metal: een interessante mix van ingrediënten. De band bestaat uit zes personen, maar de hoofdrol is duidelijk voor zangeres en toetseniste Courtney Swain. Interessant is dat de producent, Vince Welch, als een volwaardig bandlid geldt. Hij zal waarschijnlijk onontbeerlijk zijn voor het unieke geluid van deze band.

Het album “You Know What They Mean” is het vijfde werkstuk van de band. Je zou je bij het beluisteren van het begin van dit album kunnen vergissen: het lijkt of we hier te maken hebben met een live-album maar dat is niet het geval.… Read more...

Deze week hebben we het Psychedelic Ensemble uit New York te gast. Dit ensemble combineert progressieve rock, art rock, symfonische rock met klassieke stijlen.

Prog Archives review: “Fans of his previous album, “The Sunstone”, will immediately appreciate this new release as it shares a great deal of compositional elements and vocal stylings. At the time of writing this review, the album was released only for streaming and downloading without liner notes, so the full list of credits is somewhat unknown. However, there is a great deal of violin presence throughout this album, and that can easily be attributed to a past collaborator, Davis Brooks. There are also female vocals, both as lead on “Little Bo Peep”, and backing on many other tracks.
