Art Rock Show – Climbing the Air (Week 17)

Review door de website JerryLucky.com: “Climbing The Air is the sophomore release from the Barcelona (…) and fans of Fusion-styled Progressive Rock will want to take note. This is one of the finest examples of that sub-genre that I’ve heard in a long time. The album is made up of seven instrumental compositions, all but one on the longish, seven or eight minute side allowing for all kinds of musical change-ups to weave their way into these thrilling compositions.

But not only that, songs will go from a rather straight forward rock feel into a Samba or from a jazzy blow-out into something more Symphonic. Speaking of Jazz, there is no denying that’s a prominent influence in the music of On The Raw especially when you add flutes and saxophones as lead instruments. There are moments where I was reminded of the music of Supertramp or Greenslade and then just as quickly Jean Luc-Ponty or Al Di Meola but all of these influences tended to come back to a core Prog Rock vibe making for music that will have broad appeal with a wide range of Progressive Rock fans.

But while that jazz influence is quite strong, perhaps even the dominant tone in the compositional nature of the music of On The Raw, it is incorporated so well with the other influences it all makes for a thoroughly enjoyable listen. If that sounds like your kind of music, I suggest you check out Climbing The Air. ”

Naast On the Raw met Climbing the Air hebben we deze week: Harvest (Northern Wind), Bent Knee (Say So), Dracma (A Fine Stormy Weather), AppleSmellColour (Unscrupulousness) & Snarky Puppy (Family Dinner Volume Two).
