FAITH ALIVE was recorded live-in-the-studio at EMI Studios, St. John’s Wood, London, on Sunday 25th April 1965. WIth the help of in-house song-writer CHRIS ANDREWS, ADAM FAITH and THE ROULETTES recorded a wild and fiery set of covers and Chris Andrews originals in beat and R&B style. This driving beat sound surprised many who saw Faith as the soft-voiced Buddy Holly-inspired pop idol for teenage girls only. His  success was made of lightweight tunes to please the crowds, but Faith and the group could also swing and rock. When in September 1963 he eventually decided to take up the challenge posed by Merseybeat and R&B, The Roulettes were ready to create that tougher, wilder, rawer sound.

When I found footage of the Rudi Carrell show on Dutch TV from 5 April 1963, I was surprised to find Faith and The Roulettes doing two Ray Charles songs in true up-tempo R&B style: ‘Leave My Woman Alone’ and ‘Hallelujah I Love Her So’.  In a TV clip from late 1962,  Faith combines his latest single ‘Mix Me A Person’ and  Charles’ ‘I Got A Woman’.   Bob Henrit: ‘ I’m not sure why you think the choice is unusual, a successful stage show doesn’t normally comprise only the artist’s songs. That said, any artist wants to entertain himself too and Adam made a good job of singing Ray Charles’ songs. By the way, these Rudi Carrell clips have both John Rogers and Russell in them’.
Russ Ballard: ‘My first time abroad  was in the Rudi Carrell show you mention. I joined in March and  I’d never flown before! Faith loved ‘Hallelujah’ and all that Ray Charles stuff. He used to get very excited about rock music, that’s the thing he really, really loved to be honest. His second single was ‘High School Confidential’ and he loved that whole Eddie Cochran thing as is clear from ‘Made You’ from his 1960s movie ‘Beat Girl’. Basically, as luck would have it he was given a pop song in Buddy Holly-style, so he went into Buddy Holly and ‘What Do You Want’ reached the pinnacle of the charts. You should know that Adam Faith had the most fantastic record collection, cases and cases of albums, though he hardly listened to them. His friend Jack Good would send him all these albums from America: James Brown, Bookter T, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Smokey & The Miracles, the whole Gordy catalogue. We’d never heard of these people. We used to go through these LPs and we even took a few home, didn’t we?’ (Source: from my exclusive interview with The Roulettes,  December 2016, © Eddy Bonte, all rights reserved).

This newly restored and remastered edition of the soundtrack to Peter Whitehead’s first commercial film made during the Summer Of Love 1967. Tonite Lets All Make Love In London is a unique commentary of London during a time when the world said it was the first city, the soundtrack features The Pink FloydSmall FacesChris FarloweVashti and more, with spoken-word contributions from Mick JaggerMichael Caine, Andrew Loog OldhamDavid HockneyAllen Ginsberg and more. As Andrew Loog says in the sleeve notes:  “The people in the film created the different image for everyone, their contributions are reflected in the attitudes and music contained in this album.” (Source:

Peter Whitehead on recording The Pink Floyd: “Whitehead’s film captured perfectly London’s mid-to-late ‘60s apex as the center of art, fashion, and music on the world stage. Remastered from original master tapes found in the CBS vaults, the soundtrack for Tonite Lets All Make Love In London is an important artifact of a fleeting moment in pop culture history, its music and interviews (including Allen Ginsberg’s brilliant reading of his poem from which the film takes its name) offering a glimpse into the window of the increasingly-distant past”.  Source:

Radio 68 is happy to present  a new show: MY GENERATION LONGPLAYTIME. The concept of LONGPLAYTIME is simple: we will play full albums, album sides or selected album tracks.  We stress overlooked, forgotten, ignored, misjudged, rare, non-commercial and media-banned music and artists, throwing in a hit album for good measure. All from or related to the sixties –  of course! Thanks, Ed   **
Bedankt, Ed
