Rebel Rousers and Luvvers ** Grave Jinglers ** Peter Green Connection

Lulu and Luvvers
Lulu and The Luvvers, feat. Dave Wendells

SPECIAL: DAVE WENDELLS, Rebel Rouser and Luvver
Our story begins with CLIFF BENNETT & THE REBEL ROUSERS. Initially a rock’n’roll band formed in ‘59, they soon developed  into a soul – R&B  band with a fantastic brass section.  The band moved to Hamburg in ’62. Two members preferred to stay home and were replaced by former Savages NICKY HOPKINS and BERNIE WATSON. Another EX-SAVAGE helped them out: guitarist DAVE WENDELLS.

He had only been a SAVAGE for half a year,  from May to October 1962, alongside Carlo Little, Ricky Brown, Andy Wren and Ritchie Blackmore. He stayed with CLIFF BENNETT & THE REBEL ROUSERS till June ’65, long enough to feature on several singles and to enjoy chart success with “ONE WAY LOVE”, reaching no. 9 in September 64.
DAVE WENDELLS went on to play guitar in a number of bands, such as Lulu’s backing and THE LUVVERS,  The Roy Young Band, Carlo Little’s Hurricane, Love Affair, Soul Survival, and so on.

Listen to three b-sides by CLIFF BENNETT & THE REBEL ROUSERS and two songs by Lulu and The Luvvers from 1964 and 1965. :

DISCOVER: THE GRAVE JINGLERS

Grave Jinglers 300x231
The Grave Jinglers

The Grave Jinglers don’t really play blues-blues, they’re not related to the sixties – so why highlight them on this station? Well, they approached Radio 68 some time ago and we were won over and happy to play a few of their songs with much ‘gusto’. Now, they’re back with a full album’s worth of nice tunes, purely American to European ears, never really straying away from what makes music from the US stand apart, whether psychedelic sounds from Frisco in 1967 or indie rock in 2015: the music that developed from black African, native Indian and white European traditions. Moreover, a present-day band that covers Bobby Fuller can’t do wrong!
Out in the US on 10 Feb.,  on Radio 68 today. http://thegravejinglers.com
Thanks to  the band!
