SPECIAL “STILL GOING STRONG”
1 THE ELECTRIC PRUNES
Mark Tulin and I were collecting ideas and songs for our last adventure when he went through the door. I am not sure he is really gone because I hear his voice as clearly as if he were standing beside me. Usually Mark and I would send each other song ideas back and forth until we had the rough story line and music in hand, then we would meet and pound everything into submission.
This CD is a collection of those final ideas and messages between us and that is all we set out to present here; but a funny thing happened on the way to the recording studio. A new idea emerged behind a gig in Tokyo in an unusual snowstorm, and then someone sneezed on a girl in the subway, and a frozen winter chilled the planet; suddenly there were new thoughts, fresh ideas and new places to sketch our story in song, and a new video. Everyone in the band felt it. Like a blast of energy. The “was” became “is”. We invite you to “be” with us, in a sonic way, and enjoy WaS!”
FEEDBACK is noise and silence in collision. It is the answer and the question bundled up in a tube; proof that someone is out there. It is the sonar ping of the submarine, the locust humming on the lake, vibrating glassware in the cupboard. But wait! Before we go climbing Jacob’s ladder to the tremolo bar we better check our fuzz tone settings. This is rock, it’s not supposed to be pretty or smooth. Thanks to original band mates, James Lowe, Mark Tulin and Ken Williams, the jagged edges abound and anything resembling smooth has been degaussed.
2 LOS BRAVOS; BLACK IS BACK
The 2015 line-up of Los Bravos – still featuring singer Mike Kennedy – who had a world-wide hit in 1965 with “Black is Black”, are back with a reworked version of that hit song, plus three more tunes: the Spanish version of Black is Black, One Step and Por tu amor.
3 STEVE ELLIS
Steve Ellis, for most best remembered as the frontman and singer of LOVE AFFAIR, has a new single out. And it’s got SOUL. Just listen for yourselves, while we’re waiting for an entire new album by Steve Ellis to be released by Angel Air later this year. Steve Ellis is still very busy touring and we shouldn’t forget his work with ELLIS and WIDOWMAKER, several solo albums and LOOT. Both new tracks, RISE and UP, were written by Mark and Maxine Boxall.
