ACHTERGRONDINFORMATIE ** BACKGROUND
STATUS QUO AQOUSTIC II

“Status Quo released ‘Aquostic II – That’s A Fact!’ on 21st October 2016, in three formats – a Standard Edition 14 track CD, Deluxe Edition 25 Track 2xCD and a 20 track Vinyl Edition 2xLP. The standard CD edition of this carefully curated collection includes 14 re-imagined Quo classics such as ‘In The Army Now’, ‘Hold You Back’, ‘Roll Over Lay Down’, ‘Ice In The Sun’ and two brand new tracks’ (from the official website http://www.statusquo.co.uk). The songs are stripped and acoustic, revealing their roots and these are more steeped in blues and country or folk than you may think. These versions are also augmented, e.g. with violin and accordion (Geraint Watkins), but I must say to very good effect (EB).
Status Quo is all over this show. We play tracks from ‘Aquostic II – That’s A Fact!’ plus older material from their psych wah wah period (1968) and from their LPs ‘Ma Kelly’s Greasy Spoon’ (1970) and ‘Dog Of Two Head” (1971). Thanks to V2 Records Belgium. Out now on Fourth Chord Records.
MATTHEW FISHER

In this show, our former member of THE SAVAGES is none other than MATTHEW FISHER, him of the mighty organ! After stints with Bill Fury and Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers, Matthew Fisher joined The Savages in 1967. That same year, Gary Brooker asked him to join his new band, Procol Harum. Fisher played on their first three albums, then left and returned on various occasions, while developing a solo career, AND, surprise, surprise, recording an album with R&B rockers The Downliners Sect in 1993! Fisher also plays on the albums of Screaming Lord Sutch.
Now, you may think that a prog band with a classically-trained keyboard player has no connection with R&B, but they did write and record some blues tunes and would play lengthy versions of them on stage.
So here’s one-time Savage Matthew Fisher playing R&B with The Downliners Sect and Procol Harum.
This is from my show The Savage Tree no. 18 on Radio Sutch www.radiosutch.net where I do one hour of R&B on Wendnesdays 21:00 hrs Brussels, 08 p.m. UK
TALES OF JUSTINE
(Complete Recordings 1967-1969, Grapefruit Records, 2016)

Seems as if this one just went down today, May 18th via a copyright strike on the Mixcloud service. Conveniently enough I stumbled upon Radio 68 for the first time just yesterday the 17th through this very Status Quo-oriented playlist. Any way you could reupload if interested? Regardless, I’m slowly (and thoroughly) enjoying the rest of your ‘My Generation’ library and wanted to drop a quick Thank You to the men and women behind this program and website. Much love.
