ACHTERGRONDINFORMATIE ** BACKGROUND

ROBBEN FORD

Robben Ford: : “I used to deliberately write blues and rhythm and blues. The Blue Line, that band really focused on blues and rhythm and blues. Traditional. But over the years I’ve really tried to expand that and this new record, more than anything I’ve ever done, is a real departure from tradition in terms of the song-writing.”
On Purple House we hear special guests appearances such as blues powerhouse vocalist Shemekia Copeland; she sings a duet with Ford on “Break In The Chain.” Travis McCready, the lead singer of the Natchez, Mississippi band Bishop Gunn, contributes the lead vocals on “Somebody’s Fool.”  And we hear a fantastic guitar solo of Bishop Gunn’s guitarist Drew Smithers on the album’s closing track “Willing To Wait”. THE MERSEYS

“The Merseys had a big pop/rock hit in the U.K. in 1966 with “Sorrow,” later covered by David Bowie on ‘Pin Ups’ – but never followed up on the promise of this successful debut. They were a spinoff group from The Merseybeats, who were one of the more popular Liverpool bands of the British Invasion although they never managed to land a hit in the United States (UK hits ‘ I Think Of You’, ‘Wishin’ and Hopin’). The Merseybeats split up in 1966, with lead guitarist  Tony Crane and bassist Bill Kinsley forming The Merseys”. (Quoted From / All Rights Reserved: Richie Unterberger, www.allmusic.com ).
RADIO 68 PLAYS: five singles by The Merseys + one as The Crackers plus two by groups led by former Merseybeats member Johnny  Gustafson + originals by The Who and The McCoys + cover by Les Baroques.
