ZABRISKIE POINT OUTTAKES + THE PINK FLOYD, JERRY GARCIA

CHECK OUT MY SHOW “LONGPLAYTIME” for more Zabriskie Point

The more you search, the more difficult it gets: The Pink Floyd recorded several  songs for  Antonioni’s movie ‘Zabriskie Point’, some of which are  collectively known as ‘the lost album’. Radio 68 elected those  listed as ‘outtakes’ on the 2CD released by Sony: Country Song, Love Scene Versions 4 and 6 and ‘Unknown Song’. That release also features no less than four ‘improvisations’ (equally outtakes)  of the ‘Love Scene’ as played by Jerry Garcia. A 7:02 version of Garcia’s ‘Love Scene’ made it to the OST, as well as three songs by the Floyd: Heart Beat Pig Meat; Crumbling Land;  Come In Number 51, Your Time Is Up.

“Apparently the Floyd were at one point to have been the sole composer/musicians for the Zabriskie Point soundtrack. They completed eight numbers for the film, but only three were used. Antonioni added material by The Youngbloods, Roy Orbison, Jerry Garcia, The Kaleidoscope, Patti Page and the Rolling Stones to round out the film’s score.  (…) Under the titles like “370 Roman Yards” or “A Total Zabriskie Point of View,” you can hear all of the soundtrack music recorded by Pink Floyd for Antonioni that never made it into the film. Whichever name you find it under, these boots purport to be the “lost” Pink Floyd soundtrack to Zabriskie Point with all eight of the tracks recorded for the film appearing in the order of the intended album’s run list. Some of the boots contain all the known outtakes”.  (From: http://dangerousminds.net/comments/the_lost_pink_floyd_soundtrack_to_zabriskie_point1)

UNCLE BUCK

“The band have worked with some of the finest and most respected artists in various musical genres for a number of years. Their expertise has enhanced many concerts and recording sessions in several countries. Collectively and individually, members of “Uncle Buck” have worked , recorded , backed and shared stages with: Phillip Walker, Wilson Pickett, Ray Charles, Larry Garner, Joanne Kelly, Alexis Korner, Taj Mahal, Magic Slim, Maceo Parker, Angela Brown, George McRea, Brian Adams, China Crisis, Mike Vernon, Don Mclean, Lazy Lester, Jack Bruce, Dick Morrissey, Homesick James, Eddie Guitar Burns, J.B. Hutto, Dave Kelly, Bob Hall, Bob Brunning, The Fabulous Thunderbirds…

The band are:
Nick Hyde – Guitar & Vocals
Russ Brown – Bass Guitar & Vocals
Simon Callow – Keyboards & Vocals
Peter Miles – Drums & Percussion
John Lancaster – Keyboards & Vocals

As “Uncle Buck”, they bring a seamless mixture of soul, blues and funk to the stage. Having paid their dues, these five “Players” have crossed each other’s paths several times in over four decades of live music performances and now come together to create a unique ensemble that visits all the key points in modern music.
Uncle Buck deliver their own special take on the music, sounds and rhythms from the heartlands and rich legacy of classic ‘Americana’.  So, if your own musical tastes follow the railway-tracks heading south from Detroit to Chicago, through to Memphis, stopping-off at Muscle Shoals in Alabama, before riding-on down to New Orleans, then hop aboard and join them on a musical adventure from the “South Side“ to “The Deep South“.” (Source: https://www.unclebuckband.com/about)

SONNY LANNDRETH

“ (…) Dit is blues van de bovenste plank, authentiek en tegelijk zonder één cliché. Integendeel, Sandreth & Co. stappen met gemak de wereld van de latinogitaar (“A World Away”) of de C&W (“The High Side”) binnen, terwijl hij op drie elektrische instrumentele nummers complex te keer gaat als een jazzy Jeff Beck.  (…) “ (uittreksel uit mijn bespreking die verschijnt In het volgende nummer van Back to the Roots www.backtotheroots.be ) **  www.sonnylandreth.com

DEXTER SHAW & WOLFTONES

“ (…° Maar kijk, dit is een bijzonder aardige plaat omdat ze ongepolijst, eerlijk en authentiek klinkt. Op geen enkel moment krijg ik dat irriterende toch-niet-weer-een-cover-gevoel, omdat Shaw alles naar zijn fifties ritme en vooral naar zijn retro gitaargeluid zet. “ (uittreksel uit mijn bespreking die verschijnt In het volgende nummer van Back to the Roots www.backtotheroots.be  ** http://www.rhythmbomb.com/dexter-shaw-and-the-wolftones/

SUMMER OF LOVE 40th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT

4-disc set released by “2b1 Multimedia”, USA, 2007, “featuring the best of 10 historic hours” on 2 dvd + 2 cd, free concert held in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park  on 2 Sept. 2007

Voor de tweede aflevering, koos Radio 68:  JIM POST, JEFF JOLLY, THE ROWAN  BROTHERS,  DAN HICKS & THE HOT LICKS, NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE,  BARY MELTON BAND (Barry ‘The Fish’ Melton, co-founder of County Joe & The Fish) , LESTER CHAMBERS (of The Chamber Brothers), LEIGH STEVENS (of BLUE CHEER) with Greg Douglass (from Coutry Weather) and Mario Cipollina (several Bay Area bands,  later Huey & The News) + THE CHARLATANS, CANNED HEAT & FREDDIE ROULETTE, TAJ MAHAL, COUNTRY JOE + more blues from original albums by THE CHARLATANS, COUNTRY WEATHER **

Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe zonder Fish,  solo-optredens van twéé Blue Cheer-leden (Dickie Peterson en Leigh Stevens), Taj Mahal, Ray Manzarek, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Danny Hicks, enzomeer.
