Radio London started to broadcast on 23 December 1964. At 3.00pm on Monday August 14th 1967 Radio London closed down following new legislation on commercial and ‘pirate’ radio in the UK.
“Radio London was the most popular and financially successful of all the sixties offshore broadcasting ventures. It won many millions of listeners and, despite being on the air for less than three years, left a lasting legacy as the station which brought format radio (and jingles) to Britain. Radio London also provided the template – and much of the DJ talent – for the launch of the BBC’s pop music service, Radio One” (http://www.offshoreradio.co.uk/bigl1.htm) .
MONTEREY INTERNATIONAL POP FESTIVAL 16, 17 & 18 JUNE 1967

“The culture loves to shove Woodstock down our throats, but for my money, there was no better sixties festival than the Monterey International Pop Festival. The only truly great artists who would perform at Woodstock but not make Monterey were Sly and the Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Band. In exchange we got The Byrds and Otis Redding, whose performance cemented his legend as assuredly as The Who’s, Janis Joplin’s, and Jimi Hendrix’s cemented theirs. Staged at a time before endlessly wanking jams became compulsory, the best performances were pithier, punchier, and more genuinely exciting, reaching a crazed climax with The Who vs. Hendrix smash-off (…)”.
