Art Rock Show – Sigilu – Beta (Week 49)

Prog Archives review: “Every once in a while, an album comes out of nowhere and knocks the wind out of you ? Beta by Sigilu is one of those rare discoveries. I stumbled upon it by pure accident, not knowing the band, not expecting anything in particular? and ended up completely floored. (…)
It’s an album sung in Spanish, and while I don’t speak the language fluently, the intensity and urgency in the vocal delivery are undeniable. There’s clearly a political weight behind many of these tracks, and even without understanding every lyric, you feel it. The emotion cuts through. If anything, it makes me wish I understood the lyrics even better ? there’s a story here worth following.
Musically, the band draws from a wide palette: echoes of Tool’s rhythmic spirals, Pink Floyd’s psychedelic elegance, King Crimson’s angularity, and the production polish of modern progressive acts like Steven Wilson. But it never feels like imitation. Sigilu have carved out their own sonic identity ? heavy, immersive, emotionally charged, and constantly shifting. (…)
What truly elevates Beta is its production. This isn’t just good mixing ? this is sound design as emotional storytelling. Aggressive moments explode with clarity; softer passages shimmer with haunting detail. There’s never a dull moment, not because it’s all loud and flashy, but because the album breathes ? it moves, expands, collapses, and rebuilds itself track after track. Just when you start to settle in, it pulls the rug out from under you.”
Naast Sigilu (Beta (Week 49)), Hats off Gentlemen It’s Adequate (The Light of Ancient Mistakes), Gerald Massois (Le vol erratique d’un papillon), Moonshine Blast (Reality Fear), Soft Ffog (Soft Ffog) & Edensong (The Fruit Fallen).
