Art Rock Show – Karfagen- OMNI (Week 28)

Prog Archives Review: ” If you follow even a little of the contemporary symphonic progressive rock scene, the name Antony Kalugin will hardly sound unfamiliar. The Ukrainian keyboardist and music producer is well known for his contributions to the genre, as well as to ambient music. With a unique musical perspective and evident skill, he has established himself as an indispensable and influential figure within today’s music scene.

Kalugin is the main creative force behind numerous projects, among which Karfagen stands out, alongside Sunchild and Hoggwash. Each project reflects a different aspect of his vast musical versatility ? although at certain points, ideas from Karfagen and Sunchild do intersect. Whether it’s in the way he paints sonic landscapes with shimmering textures, composes captivating musical lines, or crosses stylistic boundaries, his art is undeniably enchanting. (…)

Omni is the band’s 21st album and once again shows how satisfying and rewarding it is to sail through Karfagen’s sonic seas. Conceptual in nature, the album revolves around the idea of completeness, expressed through a fusion of musical formulas, influences, and talents from different backgrounds. (…)

Omni is further proof that the Ukrainian musician is one of the standout names in today’s progressive scene. It is a brilliant album, rich in detail, incorporating a wide variety of sonic elements ? from symphonic to AOR, from intimate to epic ? all with impressive fluidity. In the end, the beauty of the album lies in its internal harmony: even while exploring different atmospheres, styles, and textures, it remains cohesive, well-structured, and strongly grounded in its identity. Another album that once again confirms the talent and sensitivity of a true architect of modern progressive sound.”
