Art Rock Show – You Have It All (Week 41)

Negen jaar na het debuut komt Lobate Scarp met het vervolgalbum op Time And Space. De band heeft wel wat personeelswissels ondergaan in die tijd. Naast mastermind Adam Sears, Andy Catt en Peter Matuchniak doen er verschillende erg bekende gastmuzikanten aan mee. Zoals Ryo Okumoto (Spock’s Beard) en Jimmy Keegan (Spock’s Beard, Pattern-Seeking Animals).

Ruard Veltmaat van Prog Wereld: “De muziek op dit album is te omschrijven als klassieke progrock met een dikke laag instrumentale verfijning. Spocks Beard, Marillion, Echolyn, Transatlantic, er zijn vele vergelijkingen te maken als je de tracks gaat analyseren. Maar misschien moet je dat gewoon niet doen, laat de klanken op je af komen.

Art Rock Show – Aerials (Week 40)

Lighthouse Sparrows is een collectief van gelijkgestemde muzikanten en geluidsontwerpers, Olli Huhtanen en Sami Sarhamaa. Hun muziek heeft zijn wortels in de rock en kunstzinnige pop uit het verleden, maar kan waarschijnlijk worden samengevat als moderne prog.

Prog Archives review: “The real full-length debut album offered by this productive composer duo Olli Huhtanen and Sami Sarhamaa from Finland. Both are covering all the guitar, bass, keyboard and vocal duties again. Hah, guessed correctly, when I came in touch with their initial EP in 2020 I was quite sure that this could not be the deep end. The elaborate arrangements convinced me, so much spirit available, consequently there was more to be expected. Mission accomplished almost two years later!

Rock On! Wednesday, 5 October – Maneige, Sloche, Conventum, Fiori-Séguin, Pollen & Toubabou

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday September 15th. Dan’s pick of the week: Maneige (Les Porches), Sloche (J’un Oeil), Conventum (À l’affût d’un complot), Fiori-Séguin (Deux cents nuits à l’heure), Pollen (Pollen) & Toubabou (Le blé et le mil).

De progressieve rockscene in de Canadese provincie Quebec in de jaren 70 was er een van ontluikende welvaart, en waarschijnlijk was er geen band die dit meer typeerde of er meer van profiteerde dan Maneige. De band die in 1972 werd opgericht door pianist en multi-instrumentalist Jerome Langlois bleef een van de meest consistente acts in de muziekscene voordat ze begin jaren 80 werd ontbonden.

Ryan Sparks van Sea of Tranquility: “Unfortunately while Les Porches was largely considered a step in the right direction due to the fact that it allowed the band to stretch out and expand their ideas into not one but two lengthy compositions, this change in musical direction inevitably led to Langlois’ departure shortly thereafter and Maneige’s sound on their next few albums would shift yet again, focusing on shorter songs with a jazzier approach.… Read more...

Art Rock Show – Fall of the Watcher (Week 39)

Returned To The Earth is een alternatieve/art rock band uit Warwickshire (Verenigd Koninkrijk). De band begon in 2014 met de opnames en heeft vier albums op haar naam staan. Returned To The Earth bestaat uit Robin Peachey (zang, gitaar), Steve Peachey (keyboards), en Paul Johnston (drums).

Rick Peuser van The Progressive Aspect: “Fall of the Watcher is an intensely emotional release whose overall theme reflects the uncertainty and fear brought about by the COVID-19 Pandemic to an already stressed and anxious world. Overarching themes of personal loss, drenching grief, and weary questioning are all intertwined through a six-song cycle clocking in tightly at just under 46-minutes.
