Art Rock Show – Vigesimus (Week 18)

De Mexicaanse progformatie Cast bracht begin dit jaar zijn twintigste studioalbum uit. De band werd in 1978 opgericht door Alfonso Vidales en verblijdt ons op geregelde tijdstippen met nieuw werk.

Hans Ravensbergen van Prog Wereld: “Zoals te doen gebruikelijk op albums van Cast is ook op dit schijfje een aantal nummers volledig instrumentaal. De fantastische opener Ortni is daar een van. Cast trekt hier gelijk alle registers open. ‘Wervelend’ en ‘overdonderend’ dekken de lading het best. Maar ook het dreigende en voor Cast-begrippen metal-achtige Manley met de nodige gitaarriffs mag er wezen. Instrumentaal hoogtepunt is het ruim tien minuten klokkende Contacto. Deel 1, Primo Acto, is barokachtig met viool en toetsen, waaronder piano. Het tweede deel, Profundi, staat in het teken van gitaar.… Read more...

Lucifer’s Friend is het eerste studioalbum van de Duitse rockband Lucifer’s Friend en werd uitgebracht in 1970. Lucifer’s Friend zou meerdere keren van richting veranderen op de volgende albums. De progressieve en door krautrock beïnvloede proto-doom metal op het eerste album doet echter niet onder voor de sinistere platenhoes…
