Art Rock Show – Kanaan – Langt, langt vekk (Week 10)

Kanaan is een trio bestaande uit de Noorse muzikanten Ask Vatn Strøm (gitaar), Ingvald André (drums) en Eskild Myrvoll (bas). In 2018 verscheen hun debuutalbum ‘Windborne’ op El Paraiso Records. Vergelijkbaar met Elephant9, Mythic Sunship, Amgala Temple leveren de instrumentale nummers een psych/space fundament, verrijkt met een vleugje jazz/fusion, postrock en krautrock.

Erik Groeneweg van Prog Wereld: “Ik moet eerlijk zeggen dat ik vermoed dat een belangrijk deel van de brille van deze plaat te danken is aan het experimentele karakter van Ævestaden. Dit trio brengt fraaie platen uit waarop ze traditionele Noorse folk combineren met elektronica en ambiente geluiden. Luister maar eens naar hun plaat “Solen Van Bättre Där” uit 2023. Geen prog, maar wel avontuurlijk en erg fraai.

Kanaan speelt, na een beginperiode vol jazzrock, tegenwoordig in hoofdzaak van die gruizige heavy fuzzrock die we kennen van al die andere spacerockbands die – vooral in Scandinavië – overal opduiken en weer verdwijnen.… Read more...

Rock On! Wednesday, 5 March 2025 – Marsupilami, Maxophone, Bachdenkel, Titus Groan & Aardvark

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Dan’s pick of the week: Marsupilami (Arena ), Maxophone (Maxophone), Bachdenkel (Lemmings (And Other Songs of Alienation)), Titus Groan (Titus Groan) & Aardvark (Aardvark).

Marsupilami was een Engelse progressieve rockband die actief was in het begin van de jaren 1970. Hun naam was ontleend aan een beroemd Belgisch stripfiguur van de Belgische tekenaar André Franquin. In 1969 toerde de band met Deep Purple en speelde op de opening van het Isle of Wight Festival toen King Crimson zich terugtrok. Ze brachten twee albums uit, Marsupilami (1970) en Arena (1971), op Transatlantic Records.
