Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Dan’s pick of the week: Genesis (Nursery Cryme), Jethro Tull (Live – Bursting Out), Tony Banks (A Curious Feeling), The Moody Blues (Every Good Boy Deserves Favour) & Steve Hackett (Spectral Mornings).

Genesis was een progressieve rockgroep uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk, opgericht in 1967 door Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Anthony Phillips en Chris Stewart. In de jaren zeventig maakte de groep naam in de avant-garde van de popmuziek met haar dramatiek en zwarte humor, maar gooide in de jaren tachtig, met Phil Collins als leadzanger, het roer om met toegankelijker werk wat de band vele hits opleverde.

Art Rock Show – Malabriega- Frippada Andaluza (Week 25)

Malabriega is een Spaanse band afkomstig uit Sevilla, die zich onderscheidt door een unieke mix van rock, flamenco en progressieve invloeden. Ze combineren traditionele Andalusische klanken met moderne rockelementen, wat resulteert in een krachtige, emotionele en vaak poëtische muzikale stijl. De band is sterk geworteld in de muzikale tradities van Zuid-Spanje, maar durft te experimenteren met invloeden uit jazz, psychedelica en zelfs metal.

Guillermo van The Rocktologist: “Eight years after their debut album, Spanish band Malabriega has returned with a stunning release whose title ‘Frippada Andaluza’ suggests its connection to progressive rock or maybe a tribute to one of the genre’s icons. This band had already satisfied my senses when I was introduced to their music, due to their great blend of prog rock, flamenco and jazz, with an evident Spanish sound mainly due to the vocals, however, while writing this review I feel really excited with this album, which I’d rank as one of my top prog albums from this still young 2025 so far.… Read more...
