Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Dan’s pick of the week: The Nice (Five Bridges), Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Tarkus), Yes (Time and a Word), Procol Harum (A Salty Dog) & Family (Bandstand).

The Nice was een Britse prog-rock band uit eind jaren zestig, bekend voor zijn combinatie van rock, jazz en klassieke muziek. De groep begon in 1967 als begeleiding van de soulzangeres P.P. Arnold. Het debuutalbum The thoughts of Emerlist Davjack verscheen in maart 1968. Tijdens de opnames van het tweede album Ars Longa, Vita Brevis verliet O’List de groep, waarna ze als trio verder gingen.

Art Rock Show – Chercán – Chercán (Week 39)

Chercán is een avant-garde en experimentele rockband uit Valdivia, Chili, opgericht in 2019. Met een eigenzinnige mix van rauwe energie, gelaagde klanklandschappen en experimentele structuren verkent de groep de grenzen van rock en geluid.

Erik Groeneweg van Prog Wereld: “Het is opvallend hoe breed het geluid van de band is. Waar La Culpa nog een wat ‘normale’ progmetal laat horen, klinkt Caen Las Hojas Biancas alsof de poorten van de hel worden opengetrokken en begint Kalimba weer met een zacht, teder geluid, om uiteindelijk te eindigen in een pompeuze finale. Gitaarsolo’s hoor je nauwelijks, Roberto Faúndez staat zijn plekje in de volgspot liever af aan saxofonist Matiás Bahamondes. Toch is zijn rol als aanjager en aanbrenger van de zwaarte van groot belang.
