Art Rock Show – Presence of Life (Week 27)

Jacopo Vigezzi van Progressive Rock Journal “The mixes between guitar and keyboards are certainly one of the strengths of the album, with a strong reference to the ’70s. An energetic and well-structured rhythmic session and the vocals of Eirikur Hauksson of Magic Pie complete the sound, characterized by a good balance between the hardest and the symphonic parts. The album opens with a track of over 9 minutes titled “Resurrection,” featuring elaborate Prog textures built around 70s-style keyboards, massive guitar riffs and warm, punchy vocals. The rhythmic session is solid and full of tempo changes that increase the technical rate of the piece, very successful even in the long instrumental sections, which highlight the intertwining between keyboards and guitar.… Read more...

Art Rock Show – To Touch the Sky (Week 26)

The Prog Mind review: “I’m always impressed when a band can balance old and new, fresh and classic, ambience and rhythm.  The Emerald Dawn are very good at this.  (…)

On their last couple albums, the band proved to me that they can truly play on a towering level. Their music is typically poetic, mostly instrumental with sparse vocals, imaginative, and atmospheric. (…)

Rock On! Wednesday, 23 June – Over (Peter Hammill, Matching Mole, The Wilde Flowers, Caravan & Van Der Graaf Generator)

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday December 23rd. Dan’s pick of the week: Peter Hammill (Over), Matching Mole (Matching Mole), The Wilde Flowers (Tales of Canterbury: The Wilde Flowers Story), Caravan (If I Could Do It All Over Again, I’d Do It All Over You) & Van Der Graaf Generator (Godbluff).

Read more...
