Art Rock Show – The World as We Knew It (Week 17)

Oorspronkelijk gevestigd in Cardiff is Retreat from Moscow een melodieuze rockband die uitgebreid optrad tussen november 1979 en augustus 1981. Kernleden van de band Andrew Raymond, Greg Haver, Tony Lewis en John Harris kwamen in 2018 bij elkaar om oud en nieuw materiaal op te nemen voor dit album.

Art Rock Show – Sapiens Chapitre 3/3 Actum (Week 16)

Liefhebbers van progressieve rock behoeven geen introductie als het gaat om de naam van Jean-Piere Louveton. Als oprichter, componist en frontman van de Franse progressieve rockband Nemo maakte hij al furore.

Art Rock Show – Red Alert in the Blue Forest (Week 15)

Von Hertzen Brothers zijn een Finse rockgroep, opgericht in 2000 door drie broers. Hun muziek is een mix van klassieke rock en progressieve elementen, folk, punk en hedendaagse rock.

Marcel Debets van Prog Wereld: “Elk nieuw album van VHB moet je veroveren. Je moet er moeite voor doen om de muziek tot je door te laten dringen en de schoonheid ervan te beseffen. Het is een ‘aquired taste’. De muziek is nooit echt heel ingewikkeld (geen spierballenvertoon met maatsoorten) en ook nergens atonaal of anderszins moeilijk. Maar toch denk je nooit bij een eerste luisterbeurt ‘wat een meesterwerk’. Dat was al zo bij het doorbraakalbum “Nine Lives” uit 2013 (waar ook Flowers And Rust op staat) en dat geldt ook nu weer voor “Red Alert In The Blue Forest”.… Read more...

Art Rock Show – An Hour Before It’s Dark (Week 14)

Begin vorig maand werd “An Hour Before It’s Dark”, het 20ste studioalbum van de Britse neo-progressieve rockband Marillion uitgebracht.

Brendan Schroer van Sputnik Music: “On a stylistic level, An Hour Before It’s Dark is your typical Hogarth-era Marillion album: dramatic neo-prog with a contemporary slant and touches of alt-rock. Opener “Be Hard On Yourself” acts as an assurance that the melancholy and world-weariness of F E A R wouldn’t be completely absent from this project; guitarist Steve Rothery’s signature reverb-laden melodies give a haunting ambiance as Mark Kelly’s stark keyboard lines loom over the soundscape. Still, there’s a surprisingly upbeat nature about it all as well.
