UNSUNG review: “For this second Lard Free album, Gilbert Artman – here playing drums, percussion, vibes, Hammond organ, piano, tenor sax and CNDP [?] – put together an entirely new group behind him and leapt into moody deep inner-space territory informed in part by Terry Riley and Heldon, though leaping a few shades beyond. Some of the elements of the debut were still present, but the whole was smoother texturally, and more experimentally sophisticated. It still stands the test of time today and sounds remarkably modern.… Read more...

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday february 21st. Dan’s pick of the week: Camel (Mirage), Premiata Forneria Marconi (Photos of Ghosts), Triumvirat (Spartacus), Kayak (Kayak), Ambrosia (Ambrosia) & Beggar’s Opera (Act One).

Mirage is het tweede studioalbum van de Engelse progressieve rockband Camel, uitgebracht op 1 maart 1974. Het bevat nummers als “The White Rider”, “Lady Fantasy” en “Supertwister”. Meer dan de moeite waard dus…

Dick van de Heijde van Prog Wereld: “De muziek is een puur staaltje vakmanschap. Op” Mirage” gutst het van de solo’s op gitaar en toetsen, meer nog dan op de daaropvolgende albums “The Snow Goose”  en “Moonmadness” welke de band wereldwijd faam gegeven hebben. Toch is “Mirage” veel meer dan zomaar een voorbode op dat succes, daar alle typerende Camel-ingrediënten al aanwezig zijn in de plaat.… Read more...
