Art Rock Show – Fauna (Week 16)

Fauna is het zevende studioalbum van de Britse progressieve metalband Haken. Het werd op 3 maart 2023 uitgebracht via Inside Out Music. Het album is de eerste release zonder toetsenist Diego Tejeida, die de band in 2021 verliet. Oprichter Peter Jones diende als zijn vervanger.

Marcel Debets van Prog Wereld: “Qua concept lijkt het album op het eerste gezicht eenvoudig. Alle songtitels verwijzen naar een dier, soms letterlijk, soms indirect. Maar daaronder liggen meerdere lagen en uiteindelijk gaan de songs over mensen of de mensheid. Zo gaat het slotnummer Eyes of Ebony over de bijna uitgestorven witte neushoorn, maar daaronder gaat het over de vader van Richard Henshall, die in 2018 overleed en veel hand- en spandiensten verrichtte voor de band. Openingsnummer Taurus gaat dan weer over de hordes gnoes die over de Serengeti denderen en zo een metafoor vormen voor de Russische invasie van Oekraïne.… Read more...

Rock On! Wednesday, April 19, 2023 – Rush, Styx, Magnum, Flash, T2 & Wishbone Ash

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday March 8th. Dan’s pick of the week: Rush (2112), Styx (Pieces of Eight), Magnum (Kingdom of Madness), Flash (Flash), T2 (It’ll All Work Out in Boomland) & Wishbone Ash (Live Dates).

Rush was een Canadese rockband die bestond uit Geddy Lee (bas, toetsen, zang), Alex Lifeson (gitaar), en Neil Peart (drums, percussie, tekstschrijver). De band ontstond in 1968 in Toronto met Lifeson, drummer John Rutsey, en basgitarist/zanger Jeff Jones, die Lee onmiddellijk verving. Nadat Lee was toegetreden, maakte de band verschillende bezettingen door voordat de klassieke power trio bezetting werd bereikt met de toevoeging van Peart in juli 1974, die Rutsey verving vier maanden na de release van hun titelloze debuutalbum; deze bezetting bleef intact voor de rest van de carrière van de band.… Read more...
