Art Rock Show – The Uncrowned King: Act 1 (Week 31)

Evership is een Amerikaanse progressieve rockband die is gevestigd in Nashville, Tennessee. Evership is een project van de componist en multi-instrumentalist Shane Atkinson. Kortom, zeer goede symfonische neo-prog geïnspireerd door Queen, Yes, Royal Hunt en Rush.

Op het album staan veel lange nummers die veelal zijn onderverdeeld in subtitels. Die overgangen hoor je duidelijk, maar ze voelen nergens gekunsteld aan. Het is zeker geen ‘knutselsymfo’, maar een organisch geheel dat al je aandacht opeist en je steeds weer zal verrassen. De nummers zijn los van elkaar al geweldig, maar het album groeit pas echt als je hem in zijn geheel verorbert.

Door de zachte toetsen trekt opener The Pilgrimage je langzaamaan de wereld van Evership in. Als de toetsen dan de hoogste versnelling ingaan en de drumfills om je oren vliegen is er geen ontsnappen meer mogelijk: je bent verslingerd.… Read more...

Art Rock Show – Dark Horizons (Week 30)

De in Londen gevestigde band Illuminae werd opgericht door twee bekende artiesten in de Britse progressieve rock scene – Ian Jones (Karnataka, Chasing The Monsoon) en Agnieszka Swita (Caamora). Er spelen ook enkele speciale gastmuzikanten mee zoals Steve Hackett, John Helliwell, Troy Donockley, Craug Blundell, etc.

Maarten Goossensen van Prog Wereld: “De muziek van Illuminae blijft dichtbij het geluid van Karnataka, maar is bombastischer dan op zijn Chasing The Monsoon project. Het duo heeft zich omringt met een aantal klasse muzikanten. (…)

Het album bevat een aantal geweldige songs. Zo is het beste nummer van het album meteen als eerste geplaatst. The Lighthouse heeft een prima opbouw waarbij de spanning mooi gedoseerd wordt. Agnieszka Swita heeft een overtuigend stemgeluid en als haar lichte accent je niet stoort, dan zal ze je op dit album niet teleurstellen.… Read more...
