Op donderdag 1 oktober 1970 bracht EMI de nieuwe Pink Floyd plaat ‘Atom Heart Mother’uit. De LP met die koe op de hoes vormde het begin van een ware koersverandering. Vanaf toen kwam de band met steeds complexere epische prog en werd de psychedelica steeds meer naar de achtergrond geschoven.

Art Rock Show – Take a Closer Look (Week 49)

Deze week brengen we Osiris, een van Bahrein’s meest populaire bands in de jaren tachtig. De laatste plaat dateert ook al weer van tien jaar geleden. Prog Archives review: “This is probably more of a straightforward neo/symphonic album than those released during their halcyon days, but what might be lacking in the ethnicity department is more than compensated by their fervor for the prog rock that is as much a part of who they are. Cautiously I want to say that this sounds like it could have appeared after “Myths and Legends”, but that would be minimizing the impact of the last 30 years of prog revival. So, while comparisons to CAMEL, ELOY, FM, SAGA and even KANSAS still resonate, I also hear kinship with the grandchildren of that generation like CLEPSYDRA and TEMPUS FUGIT.… Read more...

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday November 25th. Dan’s pick of the week: Gentle Giant (Acquiring The Taste), Matching Mole (Little Red Record), Peter Hammill (Fools Mate) & Egg (The Polite Force).

Een jaar na hun onstuimige debuut komt de Britse band Gentle Giant in 1971 met een nog ambitieuze opvolger. Acquiring the Taste heet de plaat en de band heeft in hun drang uniek te zijn, het meest symfonische werkstuk uit hun bestaan mee gecreëerd.
