Art Rock Show – Fimbulvinter (Week 5)

Kornmo is het project van ex-Morild leden Odd-Roar Bakken (gitaar, toetsen) en Nils Larsen (bas) uit het Noorse trondheim. Fimbulvinter is hun derde album en invloeden van de vroege Genesis en vooral Camel zijn duidelijk merkbaar.

Zoals het bij de old school prog/symfo hoort hebben we hier te maken met vijf lange nummers. Het langste nummer is Kjempene Våkner, dat ruim 26 minuten duurt. 26 minuten waarin je je overigens geen moment verveelt. Er gebeurt namelijk van alles. Er wordt luchtig gedeind op een Camel-achtige wijze, er klinken rauw priemende gitaren, akoestische ingetogen gedeeltes en een grimmig ronkend orgel.

Het titelnummer Fimbulvinter is voorzien van een intiem zwevend prog geluid met een zacht huilende synthesizer, een statig sprankelende piano en een intiem snerpende gitaar.… Read more...

Art Rock Show – No Feeling Is Final (Week 4)

Maybeshewill is een Engelse postrockband uit Leicester. Hun sound combineert elektronische muziek en samples met meer traditionele rockelementen als elektrische gitaar, basgitaar en drums.

Kasper Hermans van Nieuweplaat.nl: “In 2016 hingen de heren van Maybeshewill hun instrumenten aan de wilgen, maar het begon de voorbije jaren toch weer te kriebelen. Gelukkig maar, want No Feeling Is Final steekt alle voorgangers naar de kroon.

Met tracks als He Films The Clouds Pt. 2 en Not For The Want Of Trying bewees de band al heerlijk gelaagde post-rockcomposities te maken met waanzinnige uitspattingen. Die climaxen zoekt Maybeshewill op No Feeling Is Final minder nadrukkelijk op. Hierdoor zijn de nummers gedurende hun gehele lengte al spannender, warmer en voller van geluid. Art Rock Show – Bigger on the Inside (Week 3)

De Californische artieste Rachel Flowers laat met haar derde soloalbum zien dat ze, zoals de titel al aangeeft, “Bigger on the Inside” is. Als componiste verweeft Rachel naadloos elementen van progressieve rock, jazz, klassiek, en popmuziek met filmische orkestraties, stijgende melodieën, en virtuoos spel.
