Art Rock Show – Konom (Week 21)

Konom is een progressieve metal & rockband uit Manchester & Edinburgh (VK). De band heeft een voorgeschiedenis die tot tien jaar terug gaat. Dit debuutalbum klinkt dan ook bijzonder goed.

Prog Archives review: “Their self-titled album absolutely convinced me after the first listen. Because the difference to some other new bands is that “Konom” know exactly what they are doing. If I hadn’t known that this was their first album, I would have thought I was listening to an insanely well-rehearsed band that has surely released its fourth album. Everything sounds as if from one cast. This starts with the strong production, which gives each instrument enough space to unfold in it. Art Rock Show – Kingdom of Oblivion (Week 20)

De Noorse rockers van Motorpsycho zijn hier terug met een nieuwe plaat. Een album waar de invloeden van de hardrock nooit veraf zijn. Luke Peerdeman van Prog Wereld: “Een onverdund hardrockalbum is “Kingdom Of Oblivion” echter niet. De invloed van hardrock uit de jaren ‘60 en ‘70 is desondanks duidelijk merkbaar. Namen als Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep en Blue Cheer komen als associatie naar boven. Wat dit album verder authentiek laat aanvoelen, is de focus op  riffs, waardoor de muziek kernachtig en opzwepend klinkt: alsof de wereld aan de voeten van deze Noren ligt. Het creëert een ietwat rechtlijnig geluid dat niettemin een ongedwongenheid ten toon spreidt die gangbaar was in een tijd dat genres minder strak gedefinieerd waren. Tien jaar geleden werd Jimi Hendrix door het muziekblad Rolling Stone uitgeroepen tot beste gitarist aller tijden. Electric Ladyland is het derde en laatste album van de Jimi Hendrix Experience. Het werd uitgebracht in wonderjaar 1968, en werd het best verkochte album dat Jimi Hendrix ooit maakte.

Art Rock Show – Ghost Tapes #10 (Week 19)

De Ierse band God Is An Astronaut serveert al bijna twintig jaar heerlijke porties post-rock van een buitengewone kwaliteit. De verwachtingen voor het nieuwe album “Ghost Tapes #10” waren begrijpelijkerwijze dan ook hoog gespannen.

Jamie Giberti van Rock Sins: “There’s so many superb individual moments throughout the album its hard to pick out all of them, but the closing 90 seconds or so of In Flux is a dream for anyone who was a huge Red Sparowes fan (like this reviewer). In an album of incredibly high quality throughout, Fade is perhaps the pick of the bunch. Much more fast paced than the rest of this album, God Is An Astronaut show on Fade that they’re equally adept at sprinting through songs with Lloyd Hanney’s drumming again taking centre stage.… Read more...
